NMQA Quilt Show at Harvey House
August 7-28, 2010
Get ready to form a carpool and c'mon down to Belen's Harvey House Museum during the month of August to see the Ninth (or so) Annual Quilt Show put on by the NMQA "Sweet Charity" Special Interest Group. All quilts are made by NMQA members and donated to community agencies.
Opening day for the event will be August 7 and will feature a demonstration by the Sweet Charity Group. Want to learn quick and easy ways to put a quilt together? Come and watch for handy tips.
On August 14, NMQA member Pat Drennan will present a trunk show of her award-winning quilts and relate her quilt-making experiences. Want to see appliqué as it should be? Be there.
August 21 will feature the Valencia Valley Girls, quilters from the Belen area, who will show how to put those selvedge edges you cut off to good use. They will also present a showing of quilts made from classes taught through the year. Other completed projects will be shown and visitors are encouraged to bring their quilts to show and tell us about.
August 28 will feature the Balloon Fiesta Quilt "Chasing Rainbows", designed by Norma Jean Koelm. You will have an opportunity to purchase Balloon Fiesta Quilt raffle tickets, as well as learn from NMQA President Bobbie Mallory about NMQA's many activities. Also, local quilting group The Quilting Threads of Friendship will show and tell about their quilts. At 3 PM there will be a drawing for a Community Services raffle quilt. The winning ticket holder will go home with a quilt of their own choosing.
Harvey House Museum is open 12:30 to 3:30 PM Tuesday through Saturday, 1 to 3 PM Sunday.
